Father Marvin is one of our favorite priests and one of the reasons for this is because he actually spends time with us kids...in playing tag!
Yes, he gives good homilies, and his homily today was on the rich young man who kept the commandments but couldn't go farther than that. What he needed to do was well within his reach, but instead he settled for second best.
When one becomes the best he can be, it is not out of pride for what his accomplishments can reach, but for the greater glory of God.
As the saying goes:
"Who I am is God's gift to me.
Who I become is my gift to God."

I remember having to memorize this in the fifth grade. “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best.”
St. Jerome quote
Woops...last line should be....and your better is your best.
Thank you, Mrs. Micki! This is a great quote!! :-D
